San José, Costa Rica. Costa Rica was chosen as the venue for the World Veterinary Association Congress, which will be held from April 27 – 30 of next year. This is a unique opportunity for veterinarians of all specialties around the world to gather and explore the challenges that animals’ health and wellbeing face. An estimated of 1500 attendees is estimated, who will hear 62 speakers from all over the world.

The organization and logisticsofthe 2019 World Veterinary Association Congress will be handled by COMEXP, Costa Rican company Organizador Profesional de Congresos (OPC), which has been taking care of this type of congresses for almost 30 years, having successfully organized over 600 events across Latin America to date.

“Choosing Costa Rica as the venue for the world gathering of veterinary professionals, which will be held for the first time in Latin America, represents a sign of trust in the talent and competence of Costa Rican human talent,” pointed Nuvia Ramirez, general manager of COMEXP.

For COMEXP, being able to count on the world class facilities offered by the Centro de Convenciones is very satisfactory, as this will definitely bring new projects and will ease the execution of this kind of activities in the country. This will benefit professionals for different areas, develop new businesses and increase tourism.

This is a great opportunity for Costa Ricans to know that the organizers of international congresses first choose the destination, Costa Rica in this case, and once the country has been chosen, they choose the venue, and then they choose the service providers, among others. “The synergy of several institutions was key in the recruitment of this congress, and we at the CCCR came to make our contribution. We are working strategically to continue to contribute to other institutions so that our country can hold more and more of these events,” indicated Álvaro Rojas, general manager of the CCCR.

For Gustavo Alvarado, the Director of Tourism Management of the Costa Rican Institute of Tourism (ICT), this is a big news that shows the outcome of the effort made to promote and recruit congresses and conventions for big international events. “The possibility of recruiting a world congress of this nature contributes to reinforce Costa Rica’s place in this segment, confirming that we have the ideal conditions to hold this kind of events, a committed private sector, with a high-quality level in service delivery, and we have a country with enviable geographic conditions and closeness to varied touristic attractions that complement the experience of the tourists in this segment.”

These first-world facilities give the participants a 25-acre space with three rooms of different sizes that can be divided into different areas, six meeting rooms, press room, one VIP room, kitchen area, among others.

The scientific program of the event will have three main areas: public health, academy and clinical medicine. Additionally, several sessions on topics like wildlife species, small species, equines, buiatrics, and regenerative medicine will take place.

According to the organizers, professionals from Germany, India, Italy, Chile, Brazil, England, United States, Argentina, Scotland, Canada, Mexico, the Netherlands, Panama, Nigeria, Venezuela, Uganda, Peru, Uruguay, Japan, Korea and Costa Rica have confirmed their attendance.

The president of the Medical School of Veterinarians in Costa Rica (CMVCR), Silvia Coto, explained that the event will be a unique opportunity to promote the “professional update and the path toward excellence in this trade.”

“We offer a lecture program with world renowned speakers on topics dealing with the latest advances in our discipline, its impact on public health, therapeutics, diagnosis, clinical and production,” indicated Coto.

The president of the CMVCR highlighted that this is the first time that the congress takes place in Latin America, and for that reason Costa Rican professionals will benefit with access to up-to-date information and knowledge of advanced technology.

“For us as a country, this is an opportunity for local veterinary to be able to implement strategies and knowledge of the highest world standards and also be able to innovate and offer better services,” added Coto.

To that effect, Rojas concluded that the Centro de Convenciones de Costa Rica´s goal is to satisfy the service demand on meetings, both nationally and internationally, with the objective of becoming a world destination leader, always supporting the country strategy that the ICT has stablished for this segment.
